Tye has been married to Judy for 35 years. They have four children, three of which are married and one in pharmacy school. Tye and Judy enjoy time with their family, including four grandchildren.

Tye is an avid cyclist and once rode across Iowa (333.8 miles) in under 24 hours. He also enjoys playing jazz (saxophone) in a few bands and his own jazz quartet.
